THE PINK PLAGUE
Call it what you like, an empire, a business, a ‘philosophy’ or a fashion. The bottom line is that Playboy is a thriving porn brand, one that has its sights set on dominating mainstream culture by pacifying consumers with a dazzling selection of pink, sparkly merchandise and ‘retro’ fashions. But who really benefits from this sly marketing – young girls with pencil cases sporting that cute bunny? The women fondly referred to as ‘bitches’ ‘sluts’ and ‘whores’ on Playboy’s TV channels and available to rent for eager male subscribers? All the gloss in the world can’t hide the fact that this fortune is built on the continued sexual degradation of women by corporate pornographers.
